Introducing Fabric.cv
On January 17,
Read.cv announced their acquisition by Perplexity, that will result in
Read.cv and
Posts.cv shutting down on February 28. While we're happy for the team, it was heartbreaking news for the community. These platforms brought together like-minded creatives in a way few others have.
For those of us who've seen this before, the question remains: How do we build something that lasts? As
@nickisnoble put it, "Where is the sustain? How do we make this one live more than four years?" The challenge isn't just technical—it's about aligning the incentives of a creative community with its long-term survival. There's no easy answer, but there are things we can try.
After days of wrestling with this (and watching others take up the challenge), I feel called to get involved—with a clear point of view. That's why I'm introducing Fabric.cv, a creative community in the spirit of Read.cv and Posts.cv, designed to bring together the people and work that inspire us. My goal is to get a web and mobile experience set up by the time Read.cv goes into read only mode.
Why Try Again?
We need a dedicated space—general-purpose platforms are unfocused and mix our creative work with the messiness of the world. With AI tools, building and maintaining a platform has never been easier. And as AI reshapes our craft, we're better off figuring things out together. A fresh start, with the right structure, may yield different results.
Why Me?
I've spent over 20 years as a designer, developer, and entrepreneur—I've seen what works and what doesn't. As a Head of Design, my focus is long-term: building relationships, great teams, and spaces where creativity thrives. I understand this is both a people problem and a technology problem, and I believe I have the skills to bring this vision to life.
What's in a Name?
The name Fabric reflects the idea of weaving a strong community, and by keeping a .cv domain, we stay focused on sharing our creative work – the thing that has brought us all together.
I don't have all the answers, but I know this is worth figuring out. Let's build something that lasts.
